Dulwich community hospital news 15. 04.08
The PCT submitted a business case for the new Dulwich community hospital last year and we have been waiting for feedback from NHS London. This is the current position...
No formal decision has yet been made, either by NHS London on our business case or by Southwark PCT on the next steps for the Dulwich community hospital development.
From informal feedback we know that the heart of the proposals, which would see the provision of a range of primary care and diagnostic services and facilities for patients with long term conditions, have been very well received and fit well with the principles and models of care presented in the London-wide Healthcare for London consultation.
But NHS London has questioned the case for also including in the project investment in intermediate care beds and the transfer of the Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre, indicating that it favours schemes that focus investment more clearly on primary care services.
In light of this the PCT has decided to review the key service strategies for intermediate care, rehabilitation care and primary care to ensure our business case is consistent with our longer term vision for local healthcare. We will involve and consult patients, services users and the community on these strategies before we develop and consult on any revised business case.
Additionally, we have also expressed an interest in working with Healthcare for London to see how our proposals for primary care services at Dulwich might work as a polyclinic, as described in A Framework for Action.
